Carmo's Boutique Hotel

Ponte de Lima | Portugal

Carmo’s Boutique Hotel is born from the idea to create accommodation with a supply of programmes that help to discover the Minho region, especially the historic village Ponte de Lima.

The Architecture project should reconcile the remaining rural design of the existing farmhouse and the natural surroundings with the need for construction of a new building in order to increase the number of accommodations.

The site had a partial area classified as ecological reserve and another as agricultural reserve, which constrained the hotel’s placement.

This forced the new construction to be separated from the pre-existence, placing itself in the small space where construction was allowed.

The tension between these two constructions became the motto for the project’s development, which creates an umbilical relationship between the volumes.
