Casa do Cante, in Serpa (Portugal), was designed to honor and preserve the Cante Alentejano (popular music from Alentejo, Portugal), recognized as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity since 2014. The project is very intimate and small scale, like a “home”. The intervention recovers the two-floor existing building and its courtyards. All the annexes are demolished and the building is restructured from the inside, allowing to keep the existing facades and to recover the idea of organizing space through courtyards with orange trees. The building has two independent entrances, which oppose physically and conceptually, ensuring the functional autonomy of a building that intends to be, above all, a social space.
