Parque Vista Alegre has an unusual configuration and a privileged location in the historic center of Beja (Portugal), on the limit of the ancient wall. Its degradation and the need for reintegration in the city justified the intervention in this space that was just a sum of paths and alleys in the interstitial space between the high wall and the houses at the lower elevation.
The proposal consists of a single piece of concrete pigmented to the color of the wall that “fits” in the square, freeing itself from the pre-existing elements such as the ancient wall, pavements and archaeological remains. The project proposes a simplification of the existing functional structure, maintaining a logic of flowing path for the existing accesses, defining main access points through a set of ramps and stairs. Simultaneously, two platforms were defined at different levels, giving the square a greater polyvalence, reinforced by the infrastructures of support that were created (bar and public bathrooms).
