The new market in Ponte de Lima is located on the edge of the urban fabric, next to Alameda de São João and the Mercado do Gado building.

The proposal starts from the creation of a “void” on the site, parallel to Alameda de S. João and that, through the inflection of the existing walls, is simultaneously assumed as a square and as a crossing space. The buildings that host the program itself are generally arranged with the same orientation as the square.

The roof appears as a unifying element of the volumes and its design defines two different areas - a more traditional market area and a complementary one. The “cutout” of the roof in the square / crossing area emphasizes the idea of the market and the square as an urban space.
