GNRation is a cultural building located in the historic center of Braga, developed under the Braga Capital Europeia da Juventude project, in 2012.

The intervention in the former building of the GNR (military police) uses the concept of occupation as motif, exploring the boundary between an abandoned existing structure and a new invasor construction that takes over the space. More than a final object, it is a space in constant regeneration. The abrupt cut in the facade suggests the rupture of the new intervention, an open wound that exposes the interior of the building and captures the viewer's attention to this point. At the same time, the idea of continuity is explored in the subtle boundary between the building and the urban space, through the extension of the urban space to the interior and vice-versa. Permeability, physical and visual, assumes itself as a fundamental piece in the relationship that is intended to establish with the urban space. 

The intervention focuses, on the one hand, on the existing building, through the reformulation of the interior spaces and the clipping operations on the facade, creating a greater balance and the sense of set throughout the building; on the other hand, the “invasion” of some outdoor spaces and patios with a vertical patch of vegetation, through a large metallic structure that moves away from the facade and that, in addition to supporting the vases and camouflaging the ducts and other technical equipment, reformulates the image of the interior of the lots and emphasizes the concept of semi-occupied space, which was appropriate over time.
