Located in Alcântara, Lisbon, Edifício Calmon 21 intends to be a closed residential condominium with a differentiating offer. The proposal explores in its composition a relationship between an adherence to the urbanity that surrounds the terrain, in its scale and composition and the domestic environment that persists in the place, characterized by large trees, which provide a sophisticated, welcoming and exclusive environment.

The proposal seeks to preserve the memory of limits, vegetation and function. In this way, two private front gardens are created, belonging to the apartments/“garden houses” on the ground floor, and a central garden, which frames the entrance of the building and appears as an extension of the public space.

Between the second and penultimate floors, the project defines a composition that favors lightness, transparency and reflection of the vegetation of Rua Pedro Calmon, turning towards these the balconies and common spaces of the apartments, allowing the creation of a relationship of complicity with the surroundings that guarantees privacy. On the back facade, facing the interior of the block, the same theme as the main facade is used, but more closed, with lower windows that highlight the intimacy of the bedroom areas and favor the view over the interior garden. The top floor and the recessed floor of the building define a composition of advances and retreats that allow the marking of an urban image of the building's roofs, emphasizing its finishing.

The project seeks a unity reading | homogeneity, establishing a transitional relationship between opacity and transparency, where the volumetric composition of the last floors highlights the building's upper finish, as a counterpoint to its basement.
