The project for the Lagoa school comes as a response to the competition for the construction of its new facilities.

This results at a first level, from the competition’s program textual interpretation, which delimits the land area in two, establishing one half for the intervention area and the other for a non-construction area.

Therefore we used half of the land for the entirety of the intervention, including all the necessary outdoor areas, such as the sports center and the running tracks.

If, on the one hand, we had a small area for the intervention, we wanted to maintain a low construction, a two-story building, minimizing vertical access.

Taking advantage of the terrain’s unevenness, the school was structured on three levels. On the lower level, to the south, are the outdoor sports areas and the sports pavilion. At the intermediate level are the institutional and open to the community areas; the secretariat, administration, special education, media library, cafeteria and living areas. On the upper floor are the teaching areas and spaces for teachers.

Both the entrance floor and the upper floor have privileged views over the intervention area and the outdoor sports area, which is linked to these through a green bench, which integrates with the remaining green spaces of the sets.

To the east, the preservation of an existing threshing floor links the area to a covered outdoor playground, in the transition to a wing with music and science rooms and in the transition to the sports pavilion. This covered outdoor area has the classrooms block on top, based on pilotis.

In the entrance hall, the movement of the canopy and the outer wall on the floor 0 mimics the curved movement of the bench and adds to the volume of the classrooms on the upper floor, maintaining a visual perspective of the landscape between this and the volume of the sports hall.
