The S. João da Madeira Music Academy is located in an old elementary school type, with features and program defined in the early 20th century.

The main idea focused on reversing the conventional auditorium scheme, which is assumed in the project as a central “square”, a place for meetings, an open space, whose specificity and configuration allow spontaneous performances, alluding to the cinematic imagination of musicals or movies like “Fame”. The remaining empty space was filled with a compact volume, to which we subtracted the necessary spaces to open courtyards, ensuring lighting and ventilation for the rest of the program.
